My husband and I recently were granted full custody of his 4 year old son. DHS removed him and his newborn half brother from my Husband's BM's house because of drugs found in the newborn child's blood.
We've been allowing weekend visitation as long as she is supervised in her Father's home (or so we were led to believe). A few weeks ago when he was there, BM's Husband attacked her in front of my step son. He beat her to the point of hospitalization. She called the police and got a VPO.
My husband forbid her from allowing him in the presence of her son again. She said "not a problem he's a monster" and promised us she was done with him and we would not have to worry about my step son being around him anymore.
WRONG.
Two weeks pass and she drops the VPO and begins seeing him again. My stepson comes home last weekend claiming that not only did he see this man but that he spanked him. She of course lies and says that the child doesn't know what he's talking about but then says, "He is my son's step father and if he gets better he should be allowed to see him!"
This man has caused serious serious mental and emotional damage to this child. And she is ready and willing to expose him to this behavior once again. Apparently the abuse was ongoing we just didn't know about it.
How can we keep this man away? Isn't it a parent's right to protect their child from someone the find to be a danger to them? We legally have to allow her visitation but she insists on bringing that man around him knowing he could snap at any minute.
We've filed for a VPO. Our attorney told us that the particular judge we got is reluctant to give VPOs. and even if we do get it. how do we enforce it If she lies to us?
It seems were in between a rock and a hard place.
We've done everything to provide a safe, happy, and wholesome environment for this wonderful little boy and every time he has a visit with her we almost have a nervous breakdown worrying about him.
If she wishes to subject herself and her other child to this abuse... that is not our problem. But my husbands child is.
