Should it be OK that the step mother or step father( with out the parent) take the child to the doc if the child is sick or has a non life threatening injury. i would never carry the child to the doc if it had to do something to do with the child's private area. and of course if the child has a broken leg or something serious then all means both parents should be notified at once. but with all seriousness, am i wrong that i carry the child to the doctor because the child is sick or has a small cut.

If you truly in your heart love your spouse and you love and care about the child, I don't see any problem with it. If your spouse is ok with it, then it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks or feels. If you know that you would never bring any harm to that child and you are concerned about their well-being then you are not doing anything wrong. If the child is comfortable with you, then what is the problem? I would say don't worry about what anyone thinks besides your spouse. Also, if the child is comfortable with you, I don't see any problem at all.

Jenny, is it really that serious? I do not see a problem with taking the child to the doctor. If you are good enough to make their meals, wipe their their messy behinds, and you are encouraged to care for and love step children like your own (a mere impossible task if I might add, but I digress) you can definitely take them to the doctor.

I have taken my stepkids to routine dentist appts, actually I do it once a year. They go twice a year, but one of those times, DH is unable to make it due to his work schedule and I do. I only do it for two reasons (1) BM never has and DH is unavailable that one time, and (2) I am already taking my own child, so them going with is no big deal.
Otherwise, I am not so sure I'd be involved on that level. Nor would I want to be
